Jefferson Davis
President Competitive Edge – Partner in E3 & Training InitiativesJefferson Davis is the President of Competitive Edge, an exhibitor education, training and consulting firm in Charlotte, NC serving both show organizers and exhibitors. Jefferson provides clients with the latest and best ideas, show information, knowledge and skills to help exhibitors improve booth performance. The strategy also helps show organizers offer a more productive exhibit hall experience to attendees.
Jefferson’s strategy to improve all-around performance is to make his signature ERC (Exhibitor Resource Center) available to show organizers and exhibitors. The ERC is designed to deliver the right information at the right times to both audiences. The implementation process guarantees show organizers and exhibitors equal benefit. Exhibitor’s receive easily customizable pre-at-and post-show publicity and promotion ideas and examples, execution instructions, and sample exercises. Exhibitors can choose the ideas most likely to attract the right prospects to their booth. Ultimately the strategy benefits exhibitors and the show organizers by:
- Attracting more traffic to the exhibit hall and the exhibits
- Providing attendees with a more productive educational experience in the booth
- Optimizing exhibitor retention, especially among new exhibitors who take advantage of the ERC
- A win/win for all
Judi and Jefferson have been working together since 2009. In 2010 they merged their complimentary skills into the E3 program (Exhibitor Effectiveness Evaluation). The program started as a one page 21 question survey completed on paper by “expert” evaluators. Exhibitor’s were scored on a scale of 1-5 in three major categories: Exhibit Presentation, Product/Service Presentation and Staff Performance. Approximately 2 weeks after the show closed, each exhibitor received an individual “report card”. The report scores helped point exhibitors in the right direction to ensure improved performance for upcoming shows. It also made them more likely to sign up to exhibit the following year.
In 2013, Judi, Emil and Jefferson migrated the paper process to the iPad, allowing E3 to integrate more useful data as well as photographs to illustrate the scores. The iPad approach also helped E3 survey more exhibitors, faster and deliver improved, individual 4-page reports with charts, graphs, competitive comparisons and photographs more efficiently than its paper predecessor.
Since 2010, TSP and Competitive Edge have completed 30,000 plus evaluations for over 70 show organizations. A singular achievement. E3 has become an important productivity tool for both show organizers and exhibitors. It helps exhibitors enhance booth performance and increases the percentage of new exhibitors returning the following year.
